Jane Austen visited Goodnestone on many occasions, for her brother Edward married a daughter of the house and subsequently came to live nearby. In a parkland setting, this 14 acre garden includes a small arboretum, woodland area, shrubbery and walled garden with a parterre, collections of old fashioned roses, clematis and many herbaceous plants. The local cricket green is also within the grounds. Open: Sundays noon - 6pm, 2 April - 22 October; Weekdays (except Tuesdays & Saturdays) 11am - 5pm, 26 March- 26 October. Admission Adults £3.00, Seniors £2.50, disabled in wheelchairs £1.00, children under 12: 30 pence. Parties of 20 and over £2.50 (self-guided) £3.50 (guided). House open by appointment to parties of less than 20 people - £1.80. Sorry, no dogs allowed. |
