David Evans & Co., last of the old London Silk Printers, have been printing luxury silks on the banks of the River Cray since 1843. On a pre-booked guided tour discover the origin of silk in China in 2640BC, learn the story of the humble silkworm from cocoon to finest printed fabric, beautifully illustrated by working machinery, archive photographs and a video presentation. Alternatively, visitors can view the museum and video on their own. The silk factory shop has a wonderful selection of silk by the metre, ties, scarves and gifts to suit all pockets. Relax in the Mulberry Tree Coffee Shop over a light lunch or afternoon tea. Visit the Paul Costelloe Discount Ladieswear Outlet. Pre-season fashions, samples, seconds and ends of lines up to 70% off include separates, suits and dresses. Open all year Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5.00pm. Closed Sundays and Bank Holidays.
